Little by little, I began to realize that I had a photographic eye and a natural talent to capture images on film. I decided to combine my love of travel with my new found passion. Over the years I have had the rare opportunity to attend workshops given by Ansel Adams, John Sexton, George Lepp, Tim Grey and Will Crockett.
My passion for the medium had become all consuming, I began spending more and more time traveling and photographing. Later this year, I will travel to Antarctica on a photographic expedition with Michael Reichmann. In July of 2006 I will be going to Iceland to attend a photographic workshop with Daniel Bergmann.
My interest in photographing nature and landscapes has never waned. While I initially resisted it, in 2001 I became fascinated with digital photography. I began working for the first time seriously in color while continuing to work in black and white. I made a commitment to the digital process and consequently I donated my wet darkroom to the University of Kansas.
The Canon 1Ds Mark II is currently my camera of choice. As the digital process allows me to move freely between color and black & white, I am able to concentrate on obtaining the perfect image, deciding later whether to print it in color or black & white for the most dramatic result. While each photograph I take and each print I create is challenging, they are also labors of love.
